A Tribute to Doc Thompson

I was shocked to learn last night about the passing of Doc Thompson. He did not succumb to old age or sickness, but instead was hit by a train while out for an afternoon jog. His death highlights how fragile and short life really is.

I met Doc a couple of times when he was still living in Ohio. The first time I met him was at a winery where he was there for an event against carbon taxes. I believe it was called something like ‘protest against the green weenies’ or something like that. He always made light and poked fun at liberal causes. When I met him he shook my hand as if he knew me already and made polite small talk and asked me a few questions. Then he ran off to give a quick speech at the podium and spoke in the same way in which he had just talked to me. He was always the same, both in person and in front of a mic.

The second time I saw him was at a Freedom Expo event in Kentucky. After the event was over I remember following him over to the Hofbrauhaus where we had great tall mugs of beer and talked about future politics. I remember him driving a tiny little Honda Fit, which seemed funny for a guy so tall as Doc. I learned from a later radio broadcast of his that it was once his mom’s car. Doc always did what it took to get around, even if it meant driving his mom’s car.

I used to listen to Doc in the mornings. He was always funny and full of cheer. What you heard on the radio was exactly what you got in real life. I’m saddened by his passing not just because such a lovely funny man is gone, but because he leaves behind a wife and young kids. I would ask that you consider donating to the go-fund-me page set up in his name to help his young family.

His passing is a reminder of how fragile life is and how we must always live in the moment and enjoy the time we have here. Growing old is a privilege.

Rest in peace Doc. Thanks for all the laughs.

Listen up libertarians

I’ve listened to Stefan Molyneux for many years.

For the longest time I considered myself libertarian, just like Stefan did.

During 2012 I voted for Ron Paul during the primaries and Gary Johnson during the presidential election.

So why am I on board with Trump now?

Stefan’s video below adequately explains why.

Take a good hard look at the two major party candidates, and realize that the future of western civilization is at stake.

Conservative Cowards

We have a rude, arrogant and inappropriate man running for office. He does not preach conservative values or the constitution on the same level as many conservative talk show hosts. On the other hand, we have a corrupt, establishment controlled criminal running for office. One promises to appoint constitutional supreme justices, the other won’t even recognize the second amendment. So why is it then that these conservative hosts find the need to discredit and disown the conservative leader elected by the people? The only conclusion is that they are cowards. For years they have stayed in power through fear, telling their audiences that if they keep voting for the republican establishment, everything will be alright. Well it’s not alright, and the people of this country are fed up.

There are those like Glenn Beck who are on a holy war against our elected candidate, who would rather see Hillary Clinton win. How can those like Glenn Beck possibly claim to be a conservative now? How can he claim to have any principles when he would throw them all away for the most corrupt politician to seek office in American history?

conservative-cowards

Hillary Clinton is the very embodiment of everything that is wrong with this nation. And while Donald Trump may not be perfect, he is the leader the people of this nation elected to run for president. Those like Glenn Beck do not value regular Americans opinions, they do not value your freedoms. They do not value the rule of law, and they do not stand by the principles they espouse.

How can you possibly be a person of principle when you would rather see a known criminal with decades of corruption behind her become president over someone who is simply rude and inappropriate?

I call bull on these people. They are cowards. They would rather see the devil herself become president, than see this rude man correct all of the issues that have made them rich and famous.

Make America Great Again

It’s actually pretty simple ‘Make America Great Again’ and with a candidate like Donald Trump, you actually believe it will happen.

I have long held Libertarian ideals, yet in my private life I am very conservative. As a teenager I liked a lot of what liberals had to say, but that was during the Bush Administration, and I never really cared that much for Bush, though I did like some of his speeches. You’d have to be heartless not to get behind him after 9/11, but aside from that, I didn’t care for his expansionist government policies and reckless spending. The handling of the Iraq war still haunts us today.

The only time I really liked Barack Obama was when I first heard about him in 2006. I liked some of his speeches, and he spoke like the constitutional professor that he was. After that I never much liked him as it slowly became evident that he was a big government activist and did not have much love for the United States. He has been a terrible president. His only real achievement is becoming the first black president. That is an inspiration for black people and minorities for generations to come. It’s a shame that it ends there.

During 2012 I backed then presidential candidate Ron Paul. I loved the way that he spoke, and I believed what he said to be true. He is a genuine guy and was a fantastic congressman. I did not vote for Mitt Romney because I found him to be disingenuous and did not believe anything that he said. After his tax remarks recently about Donald Trump, it proves what a loser he is. Where was that tenacity during the 2012 presidential debates? He was and is a true establishment guy, and not good for this country.

Fast forward to 2016. Rand Paul is an excellent senator. I loved his 13 hour filibuster in 2013 and I love how passionate he is about protecting America and the constitution, but he is not as effectual as his Dad at conveying his message. Ted Cruz delivered his filibuster a few months later and I found it to be copied. In fact, much of what Ted Cruz says seems to be copied. It feels to me like he’s saying exactly everything you want to hear without the sense of being genuine about it. The fact that Glenn Beck is backing him also concerns me. For the longest time I loved Glenn, and I’ve gone back and forth on liking him for a long time. But he always ends up rooting for the establishment candidates. Just like he did the Bush’s, just like he did Romney. The fact that Ted’s wife works for Goldman Sachs is another red flag. Goldman Sachs was the biggest campaign contributor to both presidential candidates in 2012. They run the show.

And now there’s Donald Trump. I didn’t know much about Trump until recently. I knew that he was friends with Robert Kiyosaki, and that sat well with me as Robert is a great guy and inspiration in the entrepreneurial world. Since Donald announced his plan to run for the White House, I began researching him, and as a gift for Christmas, my in-laws gave me a copy of his book ‘the art of the deal’. I read it a few days later before New Years, and quickly went out and bought his latest book ‘Crippled America’. I began to have more insight into the man, and then went and watched the first three seasons of ‘the apprentice’ with my wife. I was very impressed with the deals he has made over the years, and the way he runs his businesses. I started researching his politics, and saw that he has been registered as both a democrat and republican over the years. One thing that stood out to me is that over the last couple of decades he has always sided against the establishment. Something else that stood out to me is that he has indeed donated to both sides of the isle, but that it is mostly just to stand in good favor with candidates so he can keep business operations going.

After watching the highlights of some of the debates, I find myself liking Donald more and more. I don’t believe he’ll part the seas, I don’t believe he’ll be a perfect president. He isn’t a true conservative, and he doesn’t hold all my values and beliefs. But what I do believe is that he’ll get the job done. He says he will strengthen border security and strengthen the military, he says he will bring jobs back to America. I believe that he will do this. The reason being that he is the only candidate talking about Mexico and China being a threat to our economy. He is the only one talking about tariffs, taxes and trade. All of the remaining candidates are bought and paid for in one way or another, but not Trump. He’s in this for himself. He’s in this for his businesses, and he’s in this for his kids. This is his finale to a very colorful and successful life. He is the only proven and successful businessman on stage, and he is the only one who has proven he can work with both sides of the isle to get things done and get things moving. With nearly 20 Trillion Dollars of debt, this country cannot afford to get tangled up right now. The constitution is vital to this country and I do not believe Donald will shred it. The government is too big, and it does have too much power over us, but anarchy will not help us, and if the economy is not righted very soon, the country will dissolve into that. At that point it would not matter who was president. For that reason alone I believe Trump is the only solution for the presidency right now. He is not perfect, he is not a true conservative, he will not right every wrong in our country, but he will break loose the economy, and the strength that gives us will aid us in repairing the country in years to come. Trump is the short term solution to our biggest problem, and in becoming president he will aid us in fixing our long term problems.

I am officially endorsing Donald Trump for the presidency. Good luck, and God speed.

Pursuing the truth is messy

When I started this blog three years ago, I had in mind showing the truth for what it was. I thought it would be fairly clean cut and somewhat straight forward. It is not. There is a lot of misinformation in the world today, many different factions, much mis-education. It’s hard to know who to trust.

On Tuesday I will have been a citizen of the USA for three years. Shortly after becoming a citizen, this blog, which had only been around for a week at that time, began to become political, as I then felt I was able to express my opinions freely.

The 2012 presidential race was in full swing and primaries were beginning to be held. I favored Ron Paul, as many of you will remember. I did not like many of the Republican candidates, and still don’t. But understanding specifically why isn’t exactly black and white.

Back in 2012 I was getting a lot of my information from a website called www.whatreallyhappened.com which seemed to be very informative and on the ball. Now, in hindsight, I realize that half of it is just wild eyed conspiracy theories. Now some of it is actually quite good. There are some legitimate concerns that the site expresses. I believe the owner of the site genuinely cares about his country and about freedom. But there is a phrase that now sticks out to me like a sore thumb whenever I do any research now.

“Check your premise.”

If a website, news organization or person is acting out of the premise that the USA is bad, then everything they say is going to be bias, and nothing good can come out of it. There’s another reason why the phrase “pessimism is a self fulfilling prophesy” is so true.

How can everything the USA ever does be bad? What does that mean for the person criticizing it? Are not many of those critisizing it Americans themselves? Does that mean they are bad also?

What really struck me last year was Dinesh D’souza’s ‘America Imagine a World Without Her’ documentary. He debunked many of the myths even I was partially sucked into.

I think the worst idea I’ve been sucked into is the anti Israeli propaganda. Now I’m sure there’s been some bad things that Israel has done, and continues to do. But for goodness sake; that’s war. That’s what happens when your neighbors all hate you, when other nations seek to wipe you from the face of the planet. I now think its very naive to criticize America, to criticize Israel, without also criticizing their enemies. What is so good about the terrorists? What do they stand for? Peace? Justice? Equality?

I think its very easy to give the benefit of the doubt to a mysterious other nation or group. While it is very easy to be critical of those close to home. When you’re up close and personal, you can point out every defect. When you try to judge from afar, things get warped.

Lets take my foreign policy ideas from a couple years ago. I thought the US should pull back many of its troops from over seas. But what my friend kept telling me at the time, and what I have now seen with my own eyes, is that “nature abhors a vacuum.” Those were his words, and by golly he was right. Just look at Russia! The US and NATO get all wobbly under the lack of leadership from Obama and the like, and KGB Putin pounces! He even annexes the Crimea! He gobbles it all up and merges it into his own country. And what does the media say? Nothing! They down play it. Amazing!

I have learned a lot over the last year. I may have been busy. I may have worked a lot. But I have learned a lot also. I said from the beginning that if I was wrong on anything, I would admit it. I may have been off key on these few issues, but I’m confident I hit close to home on everything else.

remembering

The pursuit of truth is a messy endeavor. It’s hard ever to be certain. Lately I find myself listening to the Blaze radio network, and I think Glenn Beck is right on most things. Family, Faith and Freedom. I believe in the preservation of the Constitution. I believe in the American way. I know that this country isn’t perfect, but I know also that it really is the best out there.

I’m sure there will be trying times ahead. There will be rocky days, and much to endure.  Keeping a needle pointed toward the truth is important. And values will triumph through.

Life is what you make it. It isn’t perfect. You will make mistakes. Mistakes help guide us, if we choose to learn from them. I have a little journal that I now keep, there is a space for each day. Each day has a new quote. Today’s quote is “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” This blog isn’t perfect. It never has been, it never will be. There will always be holes in it. It’s up to you to do your own research. I’m just trying to do what I can to help. I want to preserve the American dream, not just for myself and for my family, but for generations to come.

I didn’t realize just how bad things were when I first moved here. But then, aren’t things always bad? My grandparents grew up during World War II, with bombs falling over head. Many of you who read this grew up during the cold war. So is it really that much different? Maybe. Maybe there are now more enemies within. But we have so many more tools to preserve freedom at our disposal now. These blogs are one of them.

As Ron Paul once said “an idea whose time has come, cannot be stopped by any army or any government.” The ideas of freedom continue in this great experiment we call America. Yesterday’s quote from my little journal is ‘by doing a little bit each day, you can get a lot accomplished.” What are you doing each day to maintain yourself? What are you doing to maintain freedom?

Pursuing the truth is messy, but the truth will set you free.

Glenn Beck reveals a secret

Last year I became disillusioned with the GOP following the corruption surrounding the Mitt Romney campaign, from the caucuses all the way up until the convention in Tampa.

Now that I have read this article from Glenn Beck, I am glad that things are finally starting to come back together. I knew that Barack Obama would be re-elected by default, but I had hoped that we would be able to move on and upwards with the Liberty movement.

Nearly a year after the re-election of Barack Obama, the liberty movement is in full swing. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are filibustering, the government is shutdown, Obamacare is the train wreck we said it would be. There has been a million biker march on DC, and this weekend the truckers are heading there to lock up the beltway. Liberty is in full swing, and there is open rebellion within the GOP, between the hardliner progressives, and the libertarian element.

GLENN BECK REVEALS A STORY HE HASN’T BEEN ABLE TO SHARE FOR OVER A YEAR

Glenn Beck shared a story with viewers on Wednesday that he’s been keeping close to the vest since before the 2012 election, explaining that he’s been waiting for the right time to say what exactly happened, and what it means for the country.

It all began, Beck said, in what he believes was late August when he was getting ready to do a number of events with FreedomWorks.

“It’s about 4:00 in the afternoon and I get a call from the president of FreedomWorks, Matt Kibbe, and I can hear the distress in his voice,” Beck said.  “[Kibbe said], ‘Glenn, I’ve just been escorted out of my office by armed guards and told not to come back.’”

Kibbe added that he wasn’t the only one forcefully escorted out, and that they had been hijacked, so to speak, by the “old guard” GOP establishment.

“There was a coup during the election, and it was powerful,” Beck said.  “They were trying to get rid of the libertarian, Tea Party-minded power players, and first and foremost on that hit list was Matt Kibbe and his allies. They didn’t like the fact that FreedomWorks was cleaning house in the GOP…that they were targeting people like Orrin Hatch.  It didn’t sit well with the Karl Roves of the GOP world…”

Glenn Beck Reveals FreedomWorks Coup & Parallels With Senate Conservatives

Beck said that shortly thereafter he got a call from the man inside FreedomWorks who had “ordered the hit,” who explained how the whole situation was “really good” because now he was the face of FreedomWorks and people trust him.

“His face never saw the light of day on my program,” Beck said. “I hung up the phone with him, the next day I called board members of FreedomWorks…and we said we support the libertarian voice, and if you allow this coup to sit, we’re done and we’ll expose it.”

“It wasn’t even a week later the board took a vote and decided to reinstate Matt Kibbe as president,” Beck said. “All the libertarians that had been escorted out – reinstated all of them, and then escorted the leader of this coup and his cronies out the door for good.”

Beck spoke about the ramifications of the “coup” for the 2012 election, remarking: “So don’t tell me, GOP and John Cornyn and everybody else, about how FreedomWorks hurtthe election.  You tied their hands during the last election.”

And now, Beck said, “the exact same thing – the same people really – are doing this” within the Republican Party at large — particularly in the United States Senate.

“Anyone in Congress or the Senate who associates with FreedomWorks, the Senate Conservatives Fund, the Tea Party, anybody, anybody is being targeted by the same class of establishment Republican progressives,” Beck said.  “They do not like it when you organize. They do not like it when you choose the candidates that you actually want.”

Beck added that it’s the same reason lawmakers are not truly pursuing the IRS’ targeting of small government groups, because progressives on both sides “want that tool in place…to come after people like you.”

But with the same struggle that occurred within FreedomWorks now gripping the Republican Party, Beck said that puts you in a position of immense power.

“You are the ones that can change the path.  So when I said to you last week, ‘defund the GOP,’this is why I said it,” Beck explained.  “You are the board of directors…Luckily the board of directors actually believe in something.  And when they figured out they were being lied to, they didn’t want their money in it either. They didn’t want anything to do with it.”

Beck has said multiple times that he has no desire to see a third party, and just like FreedomWorks would have lost years of work and credibility had it given up and started over, so would conservatives if they attempt the same.

But that doesn’t mean that there can’t be an evolution of the Republican Party, Beck said, reminding viewers of how the party began.

“Before the GOP was in existence, it was a two party system – the Democrats and the Whigs,” Beck said.  “Charles Sumner was one of the most hated people by the Whigs and the Democrats…so much that he was literally beaten within an inch of his life on the House floor because no one stepped in to stop it.”

“Within four years,” he continued, “Sumner wasn’t the most hated anymore — he was the most beloved man in the Republican Party, and the Whigs were extinct…I’m telling you that’s what’s coming if we stand.”

Beck said men like Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, and Rand Paul may be the “Charles Sumner” of today, and he has no doubt they will be “the most beloved members of the new Republican Party, or whatever it’s called” in the near future.

I know that many people were upset with the libertarians after the presidential race last November, but many, including myself, are in it to win the war, not just all the battles. Like I said before, Romney was a necessary loss. It’s nice to see people like Glenn Beck starting to say the similar things.

In a few weeks time local elections will be underway, and next year the midterm elections will be going on, we are in a fine position to knock out not only progressive democrats but also RINO’s from the GOP.

Whether we end up infiltrating Republican party with liberty minded candidates, or we end up forming a new one, or renaming it to the capitalist party, whatever happens, we will prevail if we just keep our heads cool, and continue to point out the corruption, no matter how many progressives try to threaten us.

Liberty will prevail.

A necessary loss

November 2012 provided us with a necessary loss. While the re-election of Barack Obama will deal us a near fatal blow over the coming years, it also saved us from the wolf in sheep’s clothing dressed in Mitt Romney. The pro tax, pro gun legislation candidate was not all that much better than Obama to begin with, and since his defeat, many RINO’s have been spotted and shown their true colors. The likes of John McCain (another candidate against Obama mind you) and other senators such as Lindsey Graham have shown the nation that they are progressives, and have no interest in your liberties.

While the re-election of Barack Obama is a smack in the face for our country, it does not come without a silver lining.

The rise of the libertarian revolution is well under way. The RINO’s of the Republican Party have been targeted, and the Libertarian conservatives are well on the rise.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/aug/16/ron-paul-channel-new-show

Alternative news networks are being established, and are beginning to take the fight to the complicit mainstream media.

It’s frightening to think that when Glenn Beck wrote ‘The Overton Window’ only a few years ago it sounded like pure fiction, and now it has for the most part become pure fact. There are forces that are trying to take down this nation, and there are people actively plotting to end freedom and create a new world order.

This past weekend I spent a few hours reading his latest fiction book ‘The Eye of Moloch’ and was stunned at how accurately he portrays the not to distant future in America. I’m concerned because his last book came into fruition shortly after it was released.

While I usually take Glenn Beck with a grain of salt (his bashing of Ron Paul; a noted libertarian during the 2008 and 2012 republican campaigns have myself and other libertarians very suspicious about his ulterior motives) I do enjoy his fiction work, because his writing style is bite sized and full of vocabulary. Both ‘The Overton Window’ and ‘The Eye of Moloch’ are very informative about what is really going on out there, while giving an adventurous back drop.

While there may be IRS agents currently training in Atlanta on how to implement Obamacare, it is only a matter of time before the 2014 elections come up, and many progressives will be replaced by libertarian leaning senators. It is the job of all the Tea Parties and Libertarian organizations to take this fight for all that it is worth and ensure that new senators and representatives are not only thrown into the ring, but win during this crucial time in our nation’s (and the world’s) history.

impeach

If we can win this next round of elections, we can push forward with impeachment proceedings against our self imposed king, and rid the country of the cancerous ‘Obamacare’ which is stifling innovation in the work place.

And as for the next election; Rand Paul has already set the stage. He knew that without his father as the GOP nominee, they would fail in November last year. It cost him nothing, except a little scorn from Libertarians including myself to get behind Mitt Romney during his run. He knew that the flip flop would fail, and that it would set him up for November 2016. He and his father have been sowing the seeds of an intellectual revolution in the minds of Libertarians and Tea Party people alike over the last five years, and their constitutional minded tactics are beginning to pay off.

While the impending doom of collectivism is now close on our heels, the shining beacon of liberty is within reach. Is today really so much different than what the patriots of the revolution faced all those years ago? I think not.

Liberty is within reach because an idea cannot be defeated by any army or any government. Keep your head up, keep your wits about you; this fight is only just getting started.

the fight has just begun
