Felix Baumgartner will this afternoon leap out of a balloon at more than 120,000ft, in a bid to become the first human to break the sound barrier unaided by a vehicle.

The mission was a complete success.
Felix Baumgartner is the first human to break the sound barrier unaided by a vehicle. He reached a speed of mach 1.24 after diving from 128,100 feet. He now holds the titles of traveling the fastest and jumping from the highest platform unaided by a vehicle.
Felix’s jump is a major breakthrough for science and medicine, and will pave the way for future space exploration. October 14th 2012 is a major date of achievement for space exploration.
